TBA Studios releases ‘Quezon’ trailer ahead of Oct. 15 premiere

TBA Studios has released the full trailer for “Quezon,” the long-awaited finale to its historical “Bayaniverse” trilogy, ahead of the film’s Philippine cinema debut on October 15, and as the Philippines marks the 147th birth anniversary of its second president.

The 2-minute clip showcases Jericho Rosales stepping into the shoes of President Manuel L. Quezon, with returning castmates Benjamin Alves (Young Manuel L. Quezon) and Mon Confiado (Emilio Aguinaldo) reprising their roles from 2015’s “Heneral Luna” and 2018’s “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral”.

Director Jerrold Tarog expands his cinematic universe by bringing in “Game of Thrones” actor Iain Glen as U.S. Governor-General Leonard Wood, while Arron Villaflor (Joven Hernando), Cris Villanueva (Older Joven Hernando), Romnick Sarmenta (Sergio Osmeña), and Karylle (Aurora Quezon), JC Santos (Manuel Roxas), and Jake Macapagal (Manuel Nieto) round out the ensemble.

Also among the cast are Bodjie Pascua, Angeli Bayani, Jojit Lorenzo, Joross Gamboa, Therese Malvar, Ana Abad Santos, Ketchup Eusebio, and Nico Locco.

“When his fight for Philippine independence from the United States is put to the test, Manuel L. Quezon finds himself playing the brutal game of politics to outmaneuver his rivals,” the official synopsis reads.

‘Quezon’ stands alone yet completes the trilogy

Although it completes the Bayaniverse trilogy, TBA Studios President and COO Daphne O. Chiu-Soon stressed that the film is designed for first-time viewers.

“We are excited and proud to present ‘Quezon’ to the big screen both in the Philippines and internationally soon,” Chiu-Soon said. “With this, ‘Quezon’ is designed to be a compelling stand-alone cinematic experience for all audiences, whether they’ve seen the previous films or not.”

Set during the American occupation, the narrative culminates in the 1935 presidential election, where Quezon faces off against Emilio Aguinaldo. The film promises an unflinching look at the “charm and favoritism” that shaped modern Philippine politics.

Special ticket price for students and teachers

Students and teachers can watch the much-awaited historical biopic Quezon at a special rate when the film begins nationwide screening on October 15.

TBA Studios officially confirmed that tickets will be available for only PHP250 in participating Philippine cinemas. To avail of the discount, moviegoers simply need to present a valid school ID at the ticket counter.

Chiu-Soon clarified that the initiative aims to motivate students and educators to view the film in theaters.

“The best way to watch Quezon is on the big screen. We are encouraging Filipinos—especially young people and teachers—to experience it in theaters, where it is meant to be seen,” she said.

She emphasized that the film is designed as a true cinematic spectacle, from its star-studded ensemble—headed by Jericho Rosales as Quezon and Iain Glen as Leonard Wood—to its world-class technical and artistic execution.

The studio also revealed that while Quezon is intended for theatrical viewing first, it may eventually be made available on streaming platforms, but not in the immediate future.

A historical film designed for broad audiences

Following its Philippine theatrical premiere, Quezon will also be released internationally. TBA’s strategy echoes the global success of Heneral Luna—the highest-grossing historical movie in the country’s history—making the new release particularly significant for both film buffs and the academic community.

Produced in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines and CreatePHFilmsQuezon underscores the industry’s effort to bring local historical epics to worldwide audiences.

“Quezon” opens exclusively in Philippine cinemas on October 15. For complete guidelines on the special Php 250 ticket promo for students and teachers, contact the cinema of your choice.
