Ever got lost or felt caught up in facing adulthood that you can’t help but wish you could go back to your carefree life as a kid? The weight of responsibilities can make you miss your youth when the hardest decision was what toy you’d want or picking your favorite ice cream flavor.
For its first offering in 2025, Barefoot Theatre Collaborative brings We Aren’t Kids Anymore to the Philippine theater stage. Known for its previous critically acclaimed productions like Mula sa Buwan, Pride Plays, The Last Five Years, and Bar Boys: A New Musical, Barefoot continues its legacy of showcasing powerful, thought-provoking performances with this uplifting coming-of-age musical.
We Aren’t Kids Anymore by Drew Gasparini is a raw and relatable exploration of the growing pains we all face. It speaks about that moment when you realize the person the person you’ve become doesn’t match the one you thought you’d be. The dreams you once held onto may not look the same, and the world suddenly becomes more complicated than you ever imagined. With gut-punching songs and script, this musical taps into that universal feeling of uncertainty and self-discovery.
Featuring a poem by Keith White, along with orchestrations and vocal arrangements by Justin Goldner and Drew Gasparini, the show dives deep into the lives of five individuals navigating the unpredictable landscape of adulthood. Their stories will resonate with anyone who’s ever felt lost, stuck, or unsure of what’s next in life.
Barefoot’s upcoming production boasts an all-star cast, including Gab Pangilinan, Myke Salomon, Maronne Cruz, Gio Gahol, and Luigi Quesada, who will bring these complex characters to life. The production is directed by Rem Zamora, with Myke Salomon and Farley Asuncion as Musical Directors, Jomelle Era as Movement Director, Joey Mendoza as Production Designer, Hershee Tantiado as Associate Production Designer, D Cortezano as Lighting Designer and Technical Director, and Aron Roca as Sound Designer.
We Aren’t Kids Anymore will run for just FOUR WEEKS ONLY from May 2 to 25, 2025, at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati. The 90-minute show, with no intermission, promises to hit hard for anyone who’s ever struggled with the challenges of growing up.
