the philippine franchise of the global comedy series hit ‘LOL: Last One Laughing’ puts a spotlight to unique but varied pinoy humor.

Nothing beats a good laugh and so Filipino fans are in for a comedic treat as top humorists led by Vice Ganda banner Season 1 of hit reality show LOL or Last One Laughing.

Ten comedian contenders battle for P1 million as they fall one by one with one simple yet daunting task–not to laugh or even smirk while trying to outwit each other.

Prime Video handpicked the Filipino comedians for LOL’s first season: Rufa Mae Quinto, Pepe Herrera, Empoy Marquez Jayson Gainza, Tuesday Vargas, Kim Molina, Jerald Napoles, Negi, Chad Kinis, and Victor Anastacio.

Vice Ganda serves as host of the reality comedy shot last year and is finally streaming on Prime Video. Meme joined the cast and show runners in facing the press and content creators in Okada Manila last Friday night, June 28.

Days before the show goes live on July 4, the LOL contestants obliged for a round-table discussion with select media including SubSelfie.com.

While the pack is used to doing comedy in front of camera or an audience, common sentiment among the contestants, veterans or otherwise, they said was that the biggest challenge they had to face was holding the slightest smirk or even showing off teeth so not to give in to the jokes of their opponents.

Prime Video handpicked top Filipino comedians for LOL’s first season: Negi, Chad Kinis, Pepe Herrera, Jerald Napoles, Kim Molina, Tuesday Vargas, Jayson Gainza, Empoy Marquez, Rufa Mae Quinto, and Victor Anastacio, who were not in the media roundtable last June 28.

Ruffa Mae, who is celebrating her come back from a short hiatus in the US, said she is very proud with her newest Prime Video series after Comedy Island last year. She added Pinoy humor really stands out when compared with counterparts in the Americas or Europe, where the LOL franchise were also a hit.

LOL Season 1 highlights the best of the unique but varied Filipino humor, according to Jerald Napoles. He said the show offers a complete menu of comedy including slapstick and dry, with elements of performance art, magic and advocacy.

Tuesday Vargas, during the round table, hinted on how platforms like LOL help push the envelope in terms of advancing and developing comedy as craft especially amidst the proliferation of cancel culture, which in return gives a chilling effect to comedians, who then limit their humor or jokes..

That’s why the pack is happy to present a showcase of Philippine comedic creativity through LOL Philippines, which they hope gets a next installment.
